

Thomas Fischer
Radiologist
Prof. Dr. Thomas Fischer serves as the Deputy Director of Radiology and Head of the Interdisciplinary Ultrasound Center at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where he also founded the ultrasound research laboratory. He possesses a deep clinical and scientific interest in all aspects of medical ultrasound. His primary research focuses on breast imaging, ultrasound contrast agents, US/CT/MRI image fusion, rheumatic diseases, and the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
Prof. Fischer has made pioneering contributions to the development and enhancement of novel ultrasound techniques, ranging from elastography to ultrasound-guided prostate biopsies. On March 1, 2025, he assumed the role of Chair of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) Subcommittee on Ultrasound Quality and Standards, focusing heavily on integrating artificial intelligence into clinical workflows. He was also re-elected as Chair of the Radiology Section of the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM) on October 30, 2025.
In 2023, Prof. Fischer was reappointed to his position as W2 Professor of Diagnostic Radiology. His extensive academic career is backed by over 130 publications and more than 300 lectures and poster presentations. His scientific excellence has been recognized with prestigious honors, including awards from the European Congress of Radiology and the German Society of Radiology.
